Remembering Martin Feistl
- News
With profound sadness, we report the tragic passing of Martin Feistl. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.
Martin was an integral part of the Mountain Equipment Team from 2018 and a member of the DAV Expedition Team between 2016 and 2018, the period where we first came to know him. Hugely talented and driven he was a unique character with an unshakable ethic. An all-rounder, he excelled on rock and ice, establishing a series of stunning new routes in summer and winter.
Martin’s climbing philosophy was deeply rooted in adventure, his expedition to Shivling in the Himalayas with the DAV team a pivotal moment in his career, it sparked a renewed focus on finding powerful climbing experiences much closer to home in the Alps. He believed in the beauty of experiencing the challenges right on one's doorstep, reducing his environmental impact a key part of his approach. Pursuing a minimalist and clean style, the ethics of Alpinism were as important to him as the outcome. Martin’s trip to Greenland last summer embodied this, sailing there and back and making a series of outstanding ascents in the Mythic Cirque.
As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate Martin Feistl’s contributions to the climbing world. We and his many friends will remember him in the mountains, searching out the adventure that he valued so highly.
